2014 Monaco Grand Prix review

I got three words for you: drama, drama, drama! but I think the media is making this a bigger thing than it really is. If you don't know what I'm talking about it's of course the two buddies from Mercedes. Lewis and Nico, Nico and Lewis! Friends since childhood and neighbors as well. But what?! Lewis Hamilton is now saying that they are not friends. Nico Rosberg answered a question to the media that they are friends and nothing will change it. Lewis said that they are not friends, just colleagues. The media is really fishing for this stuff!

Teammates and friends since childhood

Let's talk more about the weekend shall we? There is drama here too!

Hamilton started with his sneaky business in the practice sessions by making fast laps and not finishing them. He just went straight to the pits. This was so that Rosberg couldn't follow his telemetry on his screen. The software they are using works so that if you finish a lap you are able to analyze it (sectors, corners etc.) but if you don't finish it doesn't show anything in the software. Rosberg didn't do this which meant that Hamilton got a lot more data. Rosberg only had his own data to look at and a few bad laps that Hamilton set just to have something.

It was easy to say that Hamilton wasn't fast enough but when he was he came right away to the pits so that only Hamilton new what to do where.

In qualifying Hamilton wanted to do the laps after Rosberg so that he could study Rosberg's every move. Quite smart actually but in the end it was stupid. He waited too long and didn't have a chance to set a faster time because of the yellow flags.

The biggest Hamilton fans said that he could have taken pole position easily if Rosberg wouldn't have made that mistake (or was it a mistake?) after his fast lap. The truth is that Hamilton was already 2 tenths of a second slower than Rosberg before he had to slow down. If Hamilton could have taken the time back on the following sector it would have been a miracle. Everybody were on their cool down lap and there was a lot of traffic.

Hamilton was angry with Rosberg but tried to hide it. According to Niki Lauda they had an argument in the garage afterwards and Rosberg was very sorry he ruined his lap. Hamilton was sure that Rosberg did it on purpose. What do you think? I have no idea what is true and what is not but anything is possible.

AND NOW FINALLY! Let's talk about the race. My favorite part!

The start was good for the Mercs but even better for Kimi Räikkönen. He passed Fernando Alonso and Daniel Ricciardo at the start and almost Sebastian Vettel as well.

After Jenson Button and Sergio Perez had a small accident the safety car was deployed (Perez retired). When the safety car left the track Kimi overtook Vettel at the same spot he always makes his overtakes in Monaco (the finish line). Right away Vettel complained on the radio that the car has problems again and retired after a while.

Later when the safety car was deployed again one of the Marussias hit Kimi from behind and he had to go to the pits. It ruined his race again. He has had the worst season of his career.

Later Kimi tried to overtake Kevin Magnussen and they crashed. Magnussen said on the radio that Kimi is too old and should retire. Pretty arrogant if you ask me because he is a world champion and Magnussen has had 6 race starts and crashed with Räikkönen three times already. This was probably the first time it was more Kimi's fault than his.

What about Williams? They were the second best team when this season was about to start and now they are almost in the same spot as last year. What has happened? Very sad.

The race was over when Rosberg took the checkered flag followed by Hamilton and Ricciardo.

Hamilton did not congratulate Rosberg or even shake his hand. This made Niki Lauda angry again. You should always show respect and be a good sportsman even if you don't win every race. I agree with Niki Lauda. He is no idiot.

Then it's time for my predictions and the actual results.

Pole position: Nico Rosberg, Mercedes - CORRECT

The race:
  1. Nico Rosberg, Mercedes - CORRECT
  2. Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes - CORRECT
  3. Fernando Alonso, Ferrari - WRONG. The other Ferrari (Kimi) would have got it but got a puncture.
Fastest lap: Nico Rosberg, Mercedes - WRONG. It was Kimi Räikkönen with his Ferrari.

Surprise: Sergio Perez has pushed hard in Monaco but failed almost every time. Maybe he will succeed this year? - WRONG! He retired early in the race.

Remember to post your own predictions to our F1-4-LIFE PREDICTORS LEAGUE.

The rules:

POINTS: 1st - 3
2nd - 5
3rd - 10

HOW IT WORKS: the aim of the game is simply predict who comes where in the race (top3). A total of 18 points can be won on a race day. If you get winner and and 3rd place right but 2nd wrong you get 13 points same if you get 1 correct. eg. 2nd you get 5 points. If a driver wins the race and you said he would come 2nd or 3rd no points would be awarded. Same if he came in another position, and you predicted that wrong. A table will be posted up every race weekend. The point scoring system will change once the cars become more competitive. Everyone will say a merc 1,2 so it won't be close or fun.

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR PREDICTIONS: send an email to f14lifeblog@gmail.com or message the Facebook page to submit your predictions. You have until lights out to make them. If you submit them when the race has started they won't count. So be quick! like the Mercedes.

THE PRIZE: the winner of the league will win themselves a admin place on the F1 4 LIFE page along side JT, AE & MW. If you don't want to be an admin you are welcome to participate anyway. We may also come up with some other prize if it helps.

That's it for today and if you want to send me feedback then email me: f14lifeblog@gmail.com
