2017 European Grand Prix review

For me the most interesting thing about the start was the two Finn's crashing with each other again. This time it seemed to be more Valtteri Bottas' fault and not Kimi Raikkonen's. They both dropped to the back and Kimi was furious. Bottas had to drive through the whole track with three tyres and was 1 lap behind everybody else. It seemed impossible to recover from that to the same spot.

After a few safety cars (due to debry on the track) Bottas managed to catch the rest to the same lap and warm his tyres better than anybody else. Then he just overtook drivers one by one...

...but let's get back to the safety car deployment for a bit....

Behind the safety car Lewis Hamilton complained numerous times that the pace was too slow. Then even though the pace was too slow he slowed even more down so that Sebastian Vettel crashed into his back. I am 99% positive that he did it to piss off Vettel and mission accomplished! Vettel was furious and drove to the side of Hamilton's car and turned into him on purpose. THAT WAS STUPID!! A four time world champion should not let his emotions come ahead of his intelligence like that. Because of this Vettel got a 10 second stop/go penalty and also penalty points which may lead to a race ban! Not very smart. Hamilton complained that it was not enough. In my opinion it was enough because even though he "only" got a 10 second stop/go penalty it took him over 20 seconds on the pit lane which basically ruined his victory.

After all safety cars, red flag and debry cleaning Hamilton still needed to pit because his head rest in the car was loose. This of course helped Vettel again but he was still too far away to win the race. In front we had now Daniel Ricciardo, Lance Stroll, Kevin Magnussen, Fernando Alonso, Esteban Ocon and the very lucky and talented Finn, Valtteri Bottas.

Alonso got overtaken by Ocon and Bottas. He said on the radio then that he could have won the race....?? WHAT?! why would you think that?!? You are still driving a McLaren Honda aren't you?!

Bottas continued to overtake drivers one by one and when he overtook Stroll on the last lap just before the finish line they were 0,1 seconds apart. WHAT A DRIVER!! WHAT A RACE!!!

So happy for Stroll even though Bottas ruined his party a little. I guess people can stop with the Stroll jokes now right? I guess he is pretty good after all. Give the kid a break.

A big congratulations to Ricciardo for winning his 5th race of his career. Superb drive!

Now let's see my predictions:

Pole position: Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes - CORRECT

The race:
  1. Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes - WRONG. Daniel Ricciardo won.
  2. Valtteri Bottas, Mercedes - CORRECT.
  3. Sebastian Vettel, Ferrari - WRONG. He was 4th and LANCE STROLL was 3rd!!
Fastest lap: Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes - WRONG. Sebastian Vettel was fastest.

Surprise: McLaren will have a great race here if the engine lasts - CORRECT. They got their first points of the season and both cars finished the race.

Remember to post your own predictions to our F1-4-LIFE PREDICTORS LEAGUE.

2017 European Grand Prix preview

It's the second time the F1 circus will go to Baku so this is one of the new tracks. It's also a street circuit which is very nice!

Here's a highlight video from last year:

And here is Nico Rosberg's pole lap:

The first race in Baku made us all wait for something really awesome but the race was actually very boring.

The race start was very clean and no drama what so ever. Mercedes' Nico Rosberg had a great start and lead the race from the beginning till the end. It was a grand slam for him so maybe this is a track for Mercedes also this year.

Now let's see my predictions:

Pole position: Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes

The race:
  1. Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes
  2. Valtteri Bottas, Mercedes
  3. Sebastian Vettel, Ferrari
Fastest lap: Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes

Surprise: McLaren will have a great race here if the engine lasts.

2017 Canadian Grand Prix review

On the 1st lap we saw a great start from Red Bull's Max Verstappen even though he drove over Vettel's front wing. Almost took the lead!

At the back Toro Rosso's Carlos Sainz drove over Romain Grosjean's front wing and spun into Felipe Massa. Both Sainz and Massa were out of the race and Fernando Alonso missed the disaster just barely. Massa had no idea what had just happened. Very poor driving from Sainz! The safety car was also deployed because of this.

After lap 3 the safety car pits and the race continued. Verstappen almost overtook Hamilton but failed. Then Bottas attacks Verstappen but couldn't overtake either. Great racing! I was extremely happy to see something like that early on in the race.

After 10 laps Verstappen retires and Bottas gets 2nd place. Very sad for Verstappen's sake. VSC deployed due to this.

The Kevin Magnussen - Lance Stroll - Nico Hulkenberg fight was interesting to watch. They were very close to each other and I was waiting for a double overtake but that didn't happen.

Also the Force India drivers Esteban Ocon and Sergio Perez had a real battle going on. I think this might have been Ocon's best drive ever in F1. More of that please! Perez was also asked to move over and let Ocon catch Ricciardo but he disobeyed. Perez was not thinking about the team, only himself. Ocon was very angry with his teammate and it might have cost them a podium finish. Force India promised Perez he would get his position back if Ocon couldn't do what he was aiming for.

Weird that when Kimi Räikkönen was in front of Sebastian Vettel they asked Kimi to pit. When Vettel also had to pit and was behind Kimi again the Finn suddenly got technical issues. Conspiracy or another coincidence? Kimi shouted "vittu" on the radio which is a Finnish swear word like "fuck" but is actually a bad word for female genitalia.

Vettel's overtake on Ocon was so thrilling! One of my favorite moments in the race.

McLaren's Honda engine blew up again and Alonso was not happy. If this continues then Alonso will most likely leave the team.

Stroll got his first points in his home gp! Well done mate. After a very difficult start you actually had a great race.

Then it's time for my predictions again!

Pole position: Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes - CORRECT

The race:
  1. Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes - CORRECT
  2. Valtteri Bottas, Mercedes - CORRECT
  3. Sebastian Vettel, Ferrari - WRONG. He was  4th and Ricciardo was 3rd.
Fastest lap: Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes - CORRECT

Surprise: Felipe Massa is usually good here! - True but he retired on the first lap.
