This is a bit different Mario Kart video

This post is not F1 but it's racing and I thought it was hilarious. This works very well if you have played as much Mario Kart as I have since the early 90's.

2016 Russian Grand Prix review

The start was very clean to the first corner and you couldn't really see anybody overtaking anyone. Nico Rosberg was in the lead and was flying!

In the second corner Ferrari's Kimi Räikkönen overtook the other Finn Valtteri Bottas.

Behind them Red Bull's Daniil Kvyat crashed into Sebastian Vettel's rear and also made it a bit dangerous for his teammate Daniel Ricciardo. When the third corner came Kvyat crashed once again into Vettel's rear and made him retire from the race. Vettel was furious and screamed on the radio F this and F that. He could not believe what just happened. It was the same man who he had blamed for his crash in the previous race. Kvyat will have a long talk with his boss Christian Horner and Ricciardo is also waiting for an apology.

The irony with Vettel was that he did exactly the same move on Ricciardo as Kvyat did on him in China but the previous time Vettel said that you shouldn't do moves like that. What made him do that even though he told Kvyat it was wrong. I am talking about how Vettel went totally on the inside of the Australian "like a torpedo".

Let's move on...

Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton went off track and gained an advantage over the drivers in front of him and was now 5th. I thought it was a miracle that he wasn't penalized for that move.

Force India's Nico Hulkenberg retired and his teammate Sergio Perez had a puncture and had to pit. The safety car was now deployed after the first lap.

When the safety car pitted Bottas overtook Räikkönen right away who seems to have some problems with restarts nowadays. I have no idea why but he fails almost every time. He is better at the actual starts if you ask me. Behind Bottas and Räikkönen you could see Hamilton overtaking Williams' Felipe Massa for 4th place.

Later on lap 7 Hamilton overtook Räikkönen and was now 3rd already.

Kvyat got a stop and go penalty for his crash with Vettel and pitted because of it on lap 9. For a moment there I thought he was retiring from the race because there was no announcement before it that he got a penalty.

Bottas pitted on lap 17 and Hamilton on the next lap. The Merc driver didn't get pass Bottas thanks to his pit strategy or the Finn's speed. Hamilton had one option and that was to overtake Bottas on track.

2 laps later he managed to do what he was supposed to and was now in front of Bottas. It looked very easy because Mercedes is clearly much better than Williams in every aspect.

Räikkönen pitted after lap 21 and had set much faster laps than Bottas. He got in front of the Williams driver and was now 4th.

After the last man, Max Verstappen, had pitted from second place the racing standings were Rosberg, Hamilton, Räikkönen, Bottas and Massa. They continued like this for over 20 laps till the end.

Rosberg took his 7th win in a row and only three drivers have done this before him; Alberto Ascari, Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel. Four drivers have won seven races in a row and three of them are German.

Kimi likes champagne so Rosberg gives what he wants.

The last thing are my predictions and the actual results:

Pole position: Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes - WRONG. His car failed him and his teammate was on pole.

Race:

  1. Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes - WRONG. He was 2nd.
  2. Nico Rosberg, Mercedes - WRONG. He won the race.
  3. Sebastian Vettel, Ferrari - WRONG. His teammate was 3rd.

Fastest lap: Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes - WRONG. His teammate se the fastest lap.

Surprise: Keep an eye on Daniil Kvyat and Daniel Ricciardo - CORRECT. They surprised everybody with their terrible luck.
