FIA confirms revised calendar for 2014

Formula One racing’s governing body, the FIA, has published a revised calendar for the 2014 world championship following a meeting of its World Motor Sport Council in Paris on Wednesday. 

The season will kick off in Australia on March 16 and conclude in Abu Dhabi on November 23. The two new races - in Austria and Russia - will be held on June 22 and October 12 respectively. 

The three Grands Prix listed as provisional on the original 2014 schedule - America (New Jersey), Korea and Mexico - do not feature on the revised calendar. New Jersey organisers have said they hope the race will feature in 2015.

The 2013 season in numbers

The Formula One teams used this year (in the winter tests and GP weekends) a total of 25 700 tires, including 2400 rain tires.

According to Pirelli the 19 races had a total of 951 pitstops including the drive-through penalties. On average, the 2013 season had about 50 pitstops per race or 2.3 per driver.

The least pitstops were seen in the Italian GP (24) which was also the fastest race in the 2013 season (1h18min). Esteban Gutierrez also made the speeding record for 2013 at Monza, Italy which was 341.1 km/h.

The fastest tire change in the history of F1 was seen in the 2013 U.S. Grand Prix on Mark Webber's Red Bull (1.923 seconds).

The season had a total of 985 overtakings, an average of 51.8 per race. In the last three seasons, the average has been 56 per race.

During the 2013 season a track record was broken once in Singapore by Sebastian Vettel. Three pole position record times were broken by Lewis Hamilton (British GP) and Sebastian Vettel (Singapore and Indian GP).

Der Spiegel & MTV Sport: Hülkenberg and Perez signed with Force India

According to the German newspaper Der Spiegel and Finnish TV-channel MTV3 Nico Hülkenberg has signed a multiple year contract with Force India in London today. Nico Hülkenberg represented Force India in 2011 and 2012 after he switched to Sauber for 2013. Now he wanted to join his old team.

MTV3 also claims that Sergio Perez is going to be his teammate after leaving McLaren.
