Camara set for Silverstone test debut with Toro Rosso
Toro Rosso will hand a Formula One test debut to Brazilian racer Sergio Sette Camara at the upcoming in-season session at Silverstone.
The 18-year-old Red Bull Junior Team member, currently seventh in the FIA European Formula Three standings, will drive the Italian team's Ferrari-powered STR11 on the second day of the two-day test, which immediately follows July’s 2016 Formula 1 British Grand Prix.
“I’m very happy and excited to be testing with Scuderia Toro Rosso,” commented Camara, who trialled an F1 car for the first time with a demonstration run in a 2012 vintage Red Bull RB8 earlier this year.
“It’s a great opportunity which I’ve worked very hard for and I’d like to thank everyone who has made this possible, especially Red Bull.
“This will be my first official Formula One test and I will make sure I do the best job possible as well as have fun - it’s not something that happens every day! Silverstone is a great track which I know quite well as I’ve already driven there before, so this will definitely help me on the day to focus on the car and all the new information without having to learn a new layout at the same time.
“I just can’t wait to drive out of the garage, it will definitely be a moment I will never forget!”
Toro Rosso team principal Franz Tost added: “Giving young drivers, mainly those from the Red Bull Junior Team, a real taste of Formula One, is something we have become accustomed to doing at Toro Rosso.
“Personally, I find it fascinating to see how these youngsters adapt, not just to the extra power, downforce and braking of a Formula One car, but also how they react to the pressure of a day in the F1 spotlight.
“It provides a valuable insight into how they might progress in the future. Therefore I am pleased to welcome Sergio to our team for the day and I hope that it will be a mutually beneficial experience.”
Carlos Sainz is scheduled to drive the STR11 on the opening day of the test. However, F1 rules dictate that each team must dedicate two of their four days of in-season testing to running young drivers.

2016 Austrian Grand Prix preview
![]() |
| Austrian GP 1997 |
The Austrian GP is here again! I have been in Austria and I absolutely love the whole country. A very special and beautiful place so why not combine it with Formula One? ;)
What do we remember from this track?
Two years ago Felipe Massa took pole position and Valtteri Bottas was second in qualifying. Everybody were stunned. In the race the Mercs got ahead with Nico Rosberg as the winner and Lewis Hamilton 2nd. Valtteri Bottas was 3rd and Felipe Massa was 4th. I am pretty sure that this year Williams will also surprise us and be ahead of Ferrari.

In 2014 it was also the first time in many years they raced in Austria. So when was the previous race before 2014?
It was in 2003. Michael Schumacher was fighting for the championship with Kimi Räikkönen and Juan Pablo Montoya. They were no match for Michael and his Ferrari, so of course he won the race. Kimi was second and Juan Pablo retired from the race.
What kind of other memories do I have from this track then? I remember in 1998 when Mika Häkkinen and David Coulthard took a 1-2 for McLaren and Schumacher was 3rd. Those three were fighting for the championship in 1998. In the end it was just Mika vs. Michael.
What about this year?
If we look at the most experienced drivers who have raced in Austria before 2014 there is Kimi Räikkönen who I mentioned earlier, Jenson Button, Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa. From these drivers Kimi has been the most successful there so keep an eye on him. He even took a 4th place with Sauber in his first year.
From the younger drivers I am pretty sure that Valtteri Bottas and Daniel Ricciardo will be good here.
Then it's time for my predictions.
Pole position: Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes
The race:
- Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes
- Nico Rosberg, Mercedes
- Valtteri Bottas, Williams
Fastest lap: Daniel Ricciardo, Red Bull
Surprise: Williams will shine again.
POINTS: 1st - 3
2nd - 5
3rd - 10
+ possible bonus points
HOW IT WORKS: the aim of the game is simply predict who comes where in the race (top3). A total of 18 points can be won on a race day. For example if you get winner and and 3rd place right but 2nd wrong you get 13 points.
HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR PREDICTIONS: send an email to f14lifeblog@gmail.com or message the Facebook page to submit your predictions. You have until lights out to make them. If you submit them when the race has started they won't count. So be quick!
THE PRIZE: the winner of the league will win themselves a admin place on the F1 4 LIFE page along side AE, JT, MW, MH, JI and PM. If you don't want to be an admin you are welcome to participate anyway.

Pirelli reveals tyre compounds for Belgium and Japan
Pirelli have confirmed the three tyre compounds that will be available to the teams at the upcoming races in Spa-Francorchamps and Suzuka.
The Italian tyre manufacturer will bring their supersoft, soft and medium compounds to Belgium - a combination that has been chosen for five of the eight races to date.
The teams must keep a set of softs and a set of mediums for the race, with at least one of those sets used during the Grand Prix.
For Suzuka meanwhile Pirelli will offer their three hardest compounds - the soft, medium and hard - to teams. Two sets of hard tyres form the mandatory selection, meaning teams will have to use at least one set of hard tyres during the race.
The combination of soft, medium and hard has only been used once so far in 2016, in Spain - although Pirelli will bring the same combination to both Silverstone and Malaysia.
The 2016 tyre choices so far:
Australia - supersoft, soft, medium
Bahrain - supersoft, soft, medium
China - supersoft, soft, medium
Russia - supersoft, soft, medium
Spain - soft, medium, hard
Monaco - ultrasoft, supersoft, soft
Canada - ultrasoft, supersoft, soft
