Formula One in the Olympics?

The Winter Olympics are now in Russia so I had this idea; what if Formula One would be a part of the Olympic games? This would happen very unlikely but let's talk about this anyway.

How would it work?

In my opinion they should all drive with the same kind of car and no teams! Just the countries as teams.

24 drivers would probably be enough with 2 drivers from each country. Former drivers could also be an option as long as they still have what it takes to compete. They could also choose drivers from lower classes like GP2 or GP3 for example.

The countries would need two good drivers. If they only got one then it's not possible to compete in the olympic race.

So which countries should or could participate? In my opinion the potential countries would be (in no particular order):

  • Germany
  • Great Britain
  • Finland
  • Spain
  • Australia
  • Brazil
  • Mexico
  • France
  • Sweden
  • Russia
  • United States
  • Italy

Now we have to think who would represent each country?

Germany: Sebastian Vettel and Nico Hülkenberg

Great Britain: Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button

Finland: Kimi Räikkönen and Valtteri Bottas (or if Nico Rosberg would wanna compete under the Finnish flag then he would be a very good option. He is half finnish so why not?)

Spain: Fernando Alonso and Daniel Juncadella (test driver for Force India)

Australia: Daniel Ricciardo and Mark Webber (he competed in Formula One in 2013 so he should be in great condition)

Brazil: Felipe Massa and Bruno Senna (I would have said Felipe Nasr from GP2 but Bruno Senna has more experience from Formula One)

Mexico: Sergio Perez and Esteban Gutierrez

France: Romain Grosjean and Jules Bianchi (I believe Jules Bianchi could even beat Romain Grosjean with similar cars. He is great! I am not saying that Grosjean is a bad driver but still)

Sweden: Marcus Ericsson and Felix Rosenqvist (he has been a pretty good driver in the Formula 3 Euroseries)

Russia: Daniil Kvyat and Sergey Sirotkin (Saubers test driver)

United States: Alexander Rossi and Conor Daly (Rossi has driven in GP2 and practice sessions for Caterham. Daly has driven in GP3 for several seasons and moved up to GP2 in the end of the 2013 season)

Italy: Davide Valsecchi and Raffaele Marciello (winner of the 2013 Formula 3 Euroseries)

So there you have the drivers! What do you think? What would you have done differently?
Post on our Facebook page your own opinions or how you would edit this list. I would be glad to hear your opinions if you have any.

The biggest question though is who would win this race and which country would get the most points?

In my opinion the best three countries would be Germany, Great Britain and Finland but I couldn't say in which order or which driver would win.

Tell me what you think!
