2017 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix review

Hello guys and sorry for making this review one week after the race. The reason is that I just returned from the United Arab Emirates where the race was held and didn't really have a chance to write this. Most of you have probably already forgot the race :D

It was my third year in Abu Dhabi and I loved it as always. It was amazing and it was also the first time I heard the V6 turbos live. The two previous times in Abu Dhabi they were using V8's. I will post some pics during next week.

The race itself was surprisingly boring. Like Kimi Räikkönen has said "the first two corners are ok but rest of the track is shit" and this time it seemed that it was 100% true. Kimi also said that it's stupid that they are not allowed to fight on the track but they are left to save fuel and tyres etc. I agree on this! The sport needs to change fast.

Not much happened in the race really. I mean the F2 race was much more thrilling! I am glad I saw that also.

The F1 race didn't give us anything. They were just driving after each other from beginning till the end in almost the same order. Daniel Ricciardo retired from 4th place which made everybody behind him rise a position. I hope Renault will provide a better engine next year fro the teams.

Romain Grosjean had a nice fight with Lance Stroll but it was a little like who cares right?

Carlos Sainz left the pits with his front left wheel a little loose and he couldn't steer. This I didn't even see from my seat but saw it afterwards from TV. What a stupid mistake.

It was also Felipe Massa's last race so I wish him all the best. He has had an amazing career! He almost won the championship in 2008 and won many races with Ferrari. I wish he wouldn't retire yet. I will never forget him!

Now let's see my predictions and the results:

Pole position: Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes - WRONG. Bottas took pole.

Race:

  1. Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes - WRONG. He was 2nd.
  2. Valtteri Bottas, Mercedes - WRONG. He won the race.
  3. Max Verstappen, Red Bull - WRONG. He was 5th and Vettel was 3rd.

Fastest lap: Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes - WRONG. Bottas was fastest.

Surprise: Kimi Räikkönen. Leave him alone he knows what he's doing! - He was 4th but no surprise there.

2017 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix preview

Wow! The season's final race is almost here. A little while ago we were all waiting for the season to start and now it's almost over! Time flies when we are having fun.

Not much to say about Abu Dhabi so I will talk about the same things as last year:

The Yas Marina track has hosted the Abu Dhabi GP 8 times in it's history. The facilities are one of the best in the world at least for me as a spectator. It is the only GP that has daylight and darkness in the same race.

In 2010 Sebastian Vettel won his first world championship when Alonso couldn't get pass Vitaly Petrov. It was one of the most moving moments of Vettel's career when he cried on the podium.

After winning his first championship in 2010.

In 2011 he had already won the championship when the Formula One circus returned to Abu Dhabi. That race he retired right after the start and the whole crowd in Abu Dhabi cheered. The sound was quite loud, trust me, I was there.

In 2012 Sebastian started from the back of the grid but managed to get 3rd place. Alonso was second and Kimi Räikkönen took the maiden victory for the new Team Lotus. Everybody remembers the classic radio conversations between Kimi and Alan Permane.

Here is a video with the radio conversations:

They made t-shirts of Kimi's comments.

In 2013 Sebastian Vettel had already secured his championship before Abu Dhabi. In 2014 the story was different - it was between two friends, teammates and almost brothers, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.

Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton when they were younger.

In 2015 Hamilton had secured the championship already but Rosberg had been beating him in the past five qualifyings and the past two races. Rosberg continued to beat Hamilton in Abu Dhabi.

In 2016 Rosberg was in the championship lead but 2nd in the race. Hamilton was in the lead and tried to slow down so that the cars behind them could possibly overtake Rosberg and help Hamilton. Mercedes was furious about this and even considered to kick Hamilton out of the team. When the race was over we got a new F1 champion (Rosberg) and later on he announced that he will retire from the sport. Valtteri Bottas took his place as I had said years earlier if we would be in a situation like this. Of course now nobody remembers what I said... they just thought I was crazy when I said it.

This year Hamilton is already champion but we might still get a great final race. I am also going there for the third time and I am very excited!

Now let's see my predictions:

Pole position: Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes

Race:
  1. Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes
  2. Valtteri Bottas, Mercedes
  3. Max Verstappen, Red Bull

Fastest lap: Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes

Surprise: Kimi Räikkönen. Leave him alone he knows what he's doing!

2017 Brazilian Grand Prix review

Before the race start I said that the man who leads after the first corners will win the race. When the race started I saw that Valtteri Bottas had a little better start than Sebastian Vettel but lost the position in the first corner. Bottas tried to challenge Vettel a few times for the lead but was unsuccessful.

We saw a few crashes on the first lap as well. Stoffel Vandoorne, Kevin Magnussen and Daniel Ricciardo were in a small sandwich but the Aussie was able to continue even though he dropped to the back. We also saw Esteban Ocon and Romain Grosjean crash into each other. It was Ocon's first retirement in Formula One! 27 finishes in a row. What a long streak for a rookie! Grosjean was able to continue after the crash and got a penalty for it later on.

The safety car was deployed and Bottas continued to hunt down Vettel. It seemed that it was not easy so easy so Mercedes decided to pit Bottas and do an undercut. They lost by half a second and Vettel remained in the lead.

On lap 44 the car number 44 (Lewis Hamilton) pitted from the lead even though he had started from the pit lane. Absolutely fantastic drive! The pitstop obviously made him drop to 5th place but it didn't take long for Hamilton to overtake Max Verstappen for 4th. He even tried to challenge Kimi Räikkönen for 3rd place but the Iceman told the press that he wasn't worried about Hamilton.

In the and they cross the finish line in that same order and Hamilton was chosen by the fans to be the driver of the day and I couldn't have agreed more.

Here are my predictions and the results:

Pole position: Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes - WRONG. The other Merc (Bottas) took pole.

Race:

  1. Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes - WRONG. Vettel won the race and Hamilton was 4th.
  2. Valtteri Bottas, Mercedes - CORRECT
  3. Max Verstappen, Red Bull - WRONG. Räikkönen was 3rd and Verstappen was 5th

Fastest lap: Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes - WRONG. Verstappen was fastest.

Surprise: Felipe Massa will have a great weekend - CORRECT! I bet he was much happier with this year's home GP.

2017 Brazilian Grand Prix preview

The 2003 Brazilian GP was slippery.

How many can remember the Brazilian Grand Prix in 2003 when most of the cars retired the race and Alonso was taken to the hospital? Let's hope nothing like that happens.

When the 2003 race at Interlagos was red flagged there was only two men on the podium: Kimi Räikkönen and Giancarlo Fisichella. Kimi stood on first place, Fisi on the second and Alonso was supposed to be standing on third place but was forced to go to the hospital after the crash that ended the race.

At the next Grand Prix Kimi had to give his number one trophy from Brazil to Fisi because the race control changed the results after the race. There was so much going on that they didn't even know who had won the race when it was stopped. If Kimi had kept his 1st place he would have been world champion in 2003.

Here is a video with a few highlights of the race:

Last year Lewis Hamilton won the race. Take a look at last year's results:

I am pretty sure the top3 will have the Mercs and a Red Bull up there this year.

Here are my predictions:

Pole position: Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes

Race:

  1. Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes
  2. Valtteri Bottas, Mercedes
  3. Max Verstappen, Red Bull

Fastest lap: Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes

Surprise: Felipe Massa will have a great weekend.

2017 Mexican Grand Prix review

When the lights went out we saw Max Verstappen just fly next to Sebastian Vettel's Ferrari. After a couple of corners Verstappen took the lead but Vettel and Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton was just behind. All three of them had contact! Verstappen continued in the lead but Bottas overtook both Hamilton and Vettel for 2nd place. Now it was clear that both of them got damage and had to pit. Vettel broke his front wing and Hamilton had a flat tyre. Both of them dropped to the back.

This made the race a bit more interesting but when you thought about it for a while it started to look like there was not much Vettel could do anymore. He had to be 2nd or the championship would be over. He started overtaking cars one by one and did a great job. Hamilton on the other hand could not get anywhere from last position for a long period of time. Was he playing it too safe or what was the problem? Somebody said that Hamilton had floor damage but that was just assumptions. No official information about that.

Red Bull had problems again with the engine! Daniel Ricciardo had to retire the car. First part of the season Verstappen was retiring races a lot and now it's Ricciardo. Toro Rosso and Renault also had problems. Same engine manufacturer so not difficult to guess the problem there....

Vettel could get up to 4th place but was too far away from the two Finns to keep the championship alive. Hamilton crossed the line in 9th place and became a four time world champion! Only 5 drivers have done what he just did (HAM being the 5th); Sebastian Vettel, Michael Schumacher, Alain Prost and Juan Manuel Fangio. A big congratz from me and the rest of F1-4-LIFE! Hamilton really deserved it. He has been much better this season than he was last season.

The last thing I must mention is that every time Daniil Kvyat gets replaced Max Verstappen wins a race! The third time already this happens. So weird!!

That's about it for today and now let's see my predictions and results:

Pole position: Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes - WRONG. He was 3rd and Vettel got pole.

Race:
  1. Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes - WRONG. He got a puncture, dropped to the back and Verstappen was 1st.
  2. Valtteri Bottas, Mercedes - CORRECT
  3. Daniel Ricciardo, Red Bull - WRONG. He retired and Räikkönen was 3rd.

Fastest lap: Daniel Ricciardo, Red Bull - WRONG. Vettel was fastest.

Surprise: Sergio Perez and Felipe Massa might get good results here - Perez was 7th and got points but Massa was 11th just outside of the points.
