2014 Belgian GP preview

Finally the break is over!! Could not have taken one more weekend without a race.

Spa is one of my favorite tracks because in almost every race they host we see something unforgettable.

Everybody remembers what happend in the beginning of 2012 when Romain Grosjean caused a terrible crash and got banned from the next race. There was also a terrible crash in the beginning of the 1998 race which was one of the worst in F1 history. Check the video below. Jordan also took their first 1-2 in their race with Damon Hill and Ralf Schumacher.

In 2000 Mika Häkkinen made one of the coolest moves on Michael Schumacher when he overtook him with Ricardo Zonta in the middle of them in full speed. There's more but these are the ones that I remember best. See Hakkinen and Schumi from this video:

Spa is also the track where Giancarlo Fisichella took pole position for Force India in 2009 and Kimi Räikkönen won the race even though Ferrari had a lot of problems that season. See Fisichella's comments of the good qualifying session:

Here Kimi overtakes Fisichella and wins the race with Force India's best result:

Great memories! Speaking of Kimi Räikkönen did you know that every time he has finished the race in Belgium he has been 1st or once 3rd? That's an interesting statistic because in 2009 Ferrari had a bad season and they won here. Will they do the same this weekend? IT WOULD BE NICE IF THEY DID! I'm tired of seeing Mercedes on the middle spot of the podium.

Actually I would be glad also if Valtteri Bottas or Daniel Ricciardo would win here whis weekend. It would spice up the drivers standings for sure.

Now it's time for my predictions and this is going to be hard!

Pole position: Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes (1 point in the predictors league if you get it right)

The race:
  1. Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes
  2. Daniel Ricciardo, Red Bull
  3. Valtteri Bottas, Williams

Fastest lap: Kimi Räikkönen, Ferrari (1 point in the predictors league if you get it right)

How many cars will retire before the second lap? I'm saying 4 cars. (5 points in the predictors league if you get it right)

Surprise: Kimi Räikkönen will find new speed.

Post your own predictions to our F1-4-LIFE PREDICTORS LEAGUE!

The rules:

POINTS:  1st - 3  2nd - 5  3rd - 10

HOW IT WORKS: the aim of the game is simply predict who comes where in the race (top3). A total of 18 points can be won on a race day. If you get winner and and 3rd place right but 2nd wrong you get 13 points same if you get 1 correct. eg. 2nd you get 5 points. If a driver wins the race and you said he would come 2nd or 3rd no points would be awarded. Same if he came in another position, and you predicted that wrong. A table will be posted up every race weekend. The point scoring system will change once the cars become more competitive. Everyone will say a merc 1,2 so it won't be close or fun.

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR PREDICTIONS: send an email to f14lifeblog@gmail.com or message the Facebook page to submit your predictions. You have until lights out to make them. If you submit them when the race has started they won't count. So be quick! like the Mercedes.

THE PRIZE: the winner of the league will win themselves a admin place on the F1 4 LIFE page along side JT, AE, MW & MH. If you don't want to be an admin you are welcome to participate anyway. We may also come up with some other prize if it helps.

That's it for today and if you want to send me feedback then email me: f14lifeblog@gmail.com

Comparing the 2014 teammates: Scuderia Ferrari

Everybody's waiting for the 2014 season even though the 2013 season isn't even over yet.
One thing on everybody's mind is which teams are going to be the best when the cars are changing so much?

Anything can happen and that's why it is good to be in a team that has a lot of money to develop the car through the season.

There is one good reason why Kimi Räikkönen changed teams for 2014. Lotus had a lot of problems with their finances so why not change to a team that hasn't have that problem?

Some say that there is another problem - their drivers Räikkönen and Alonso. Two roosters in the same hen-house is not a good idea or is it? Only the future will tell, but let's take a look how good the drivers have competed against their previous teammates.

I'll start with Räikkönen. First I will write the year, then the teammate/teammates and then the points with other information. Remember that before 2010 you only got 10-1points for 1st - 8th, and before 2003 10-1 points for 1st - 6st.

2001 Nick Heidfeld - Kimi lost by 3 points but retired 7 times. He was a very inexperienced driver but got a chance in F1 by driving faster than Barrichello and Schumacher at Mugello. Only difference was that they had Ferrari's and Kimi had a Sauber. He also broke Mugello's track record.

2002 David Coulthard - Kimi lost by 17 points but retired 10 times. McLaren was forced to buy Kimi from Sauber for the 2002 season because he had a three year contract with them.

2003 David Coulthard - Kimi won by 40 points and was 2nd in the drivers championship. Lost by 2 points to Michael Schumacher who retired once, when Kimi retired 3 times, and was dropped from first place to second in the Brazilian GP. He also got a penalty in the Australian GP when leading the race. A good year for Kimi with a lot of bad luck.

2004 David Coulthard -Kimi won by 21 points, got 4 podiums including a victory when Coulthard didn't get a single podium that year.

2005 Juan-Pablo Montoya/Alexander Wurz/Pedro de la Rosa - Kimi got 42 points more than his three teammates combined. Wurz and de la Rosa drove one race each and Montoya drove the rest. Kimi was 2nd in the championship 21 points behind Fernando Alonso. Kimi had a faster car but it broke in 4 races (European GP 11th in the results because retired from the lead on the last lap). Alonso's car was more reliable so the championship was easily his.

2006 Juan-Pablo Montoya/Pedro de la Rosa - Kimi got 20 points more than his teammates combined. Montoya got fired from McLaren after crashing into Kimi in the US Grand Prix. Pedro de la Rosa took Montoya's place.

2007 Felipe Massa - Kimi won by 16 points and became world champion in his first year at Ferrari.

2008 Felipe Massa - Kimi lost by 22 points and retired in 4 races. In the first race he was 2nd behind Heikki Kovalainen but after a safety car-episode both Kimi and Heikki dropped to the back. Very bad luck for the Finns again. Kimi was third in the championship.

2009 Felipe Massa/Luca Badoer/Giancarlo Fisichella - Kimi got 12 points more than his teammates combined. He also took the only victory for Ferrari that year.

2010 DID NOT RACE

2011 DID NOT RACE

2012 Romain Grosjean/Jerome D'Ambrosio - Kimi got 111 points more than his teammates combined. He was third in the championships.

2013 Romain Grosjean - Kimi won his teammate even though he didn't drive in the last 2 races and also retired in 2. When he left Lotus he was third in the championship but obviously lost the position when he didn't drive for the rest of the season.

And then Fernando Alonso with his teammates:

2001 Tarso Marques/Alex Yoong - Fernando lost to Tarso Marques but won Alex Yoong. None of the drivers got any points though. Back then only the first 6 got points.

2002 DID NOT RACE

2003 Jarno Trulli - Fernando won his more experienced teammate by 22 points. Trulli felt like team boss Flavio Briatore wanted him to be the number 2 driver.

2004 Jarno Trulli/Jaques Villeneuve - Fernando got 13 points more than his teammates combined.

2005 Giancarlo Fisichella - Fernando won his teammate with 75 points which is very much! He also won the championship. For some reason Fisichella had a lot of problems the whole year with the car and retired 6 times when Alonso only twice.

2006 Giancarlo Fisichella -Fernando won Fisichella with 62 points. Again a big amount of points more than his teammate who retired this time only twice.

2007 Lewis Hamilton - They got exactly the same amount of points, and won races equally but Hamilton had more 2nd positions which made him the "better" driver that year. Fernando left McLaren right away after the season came to an end. Some say that he didn't like the situation where he wasn't the clear number one driver. Some others say that McLaren favored the rookie Hamilton over the two time world champion.

2008 Nelson Piquet Jr. - Fernando won the young newcommer with 42 points and was the clear number one in the team again. The team also asked Piquet to crash on purpose so that the Spaniard would win in Singapore.

2009 Nelson Piquet Jr./Romain Grosjean -This year Fernando only got 26 points but his teammates got none.

2010 Felipe Massa -Fernando won his teammate by 108 points with the new scoring system and was 2nd in the championship. He lost the championship in the last race when he got stuck behind Petrov.

2011 Felipe Massa - Fernando's victory over his teammate was even greater. 139 points!

2012 Felipe Massa - Even more! 156 points, but Ferrari gave Felipe Massa one last chance to prove himself to the team.

2013 Felipe Massa - Fernando won his teammate again very clearly which forced Ferrari to sign Kimi Räikkönen instead of Massa.

NEXT YEAR IT'S ALL ABOUT:

KIMI RÄIKKÖNEN VS. FERNANDO ALONSO DIAZ

WHO WILL BE THE BEST OF THE BEST...?
