F1 Treasures XIII

I said that I was going to visit some other Finnish flea markets this week and this is what I found. Not entirely F1 stuff but every item has something F1 related in it.

I have talked earlier about "Ruutulippu" but if you don't remember or haven't read about it then here's a few words about it:

Ruutulippu means checkered flag in Finnish and it's a TV program in Finland. They also publish a book every year about Finnish motorsports. Every year there's a lot about F1 but in the early 90's it was more about Rally because Finland's Juha Kankkunen did quite well back then. He won 4 world championships.

Here's the first book. Juha Kankkunen on the cover and this is from 1993. It cost only 3 euro and late I noticed that there's Juha Kankkunen's autograph on the cover!! WOW!!

The second book is from 2010 and it was 1 euro.

Inside the book there was a DVD. The disc has various nostalgic moments from the TV show.

The third book is also from 2010 but it is another version of the previous book. This book was given only to VM (Vauhdinmaailma = The world of speed) subscribers. This also cost me only 1 euro.

I thought that people wouldn't be interested of these kind of posts so I stopped doing these. Later I got feedback from none Finnish readers asking me to do more of these. I understand that it might be interesting to know more about Finnish motorsport culture so this is probably why some of you wanted more.

Next time when I go to a flea market I will definitely look for more F1 stuff. I'll keep you posted if I find anything.

F1 Treasures XII

Today I went to a few second hand stores and found a Mika Häkkinen book. I actually have this as an "audio book" on CD but this real book cost me only 1 euro so why not?

The book is about Mika's life after F1 and that he almost returned to the sport. I like the book.

Then I found a Formula One car for my son... OK! it was for me!

Then I got some more Lotus deodorant from Lidl and they were 2,50 each.

That's it for today. I will check out more flea markets and second hand stores this week for more F1 stuff. I'll get back to you guys tomorrow!

F1 TREASURES XI

I haven't done this in a while but here goes.. 

Got my 2014 season review today and it's a double bluray! It took under two weeks to come from the UK to Finland. Just as long as I am willing to wait. Well.. actually when it's F1 I can wait for a year if I have to!

I will write something about the review when I have watched it. It's over 5 hours long so I don't have time to watch it right now.

Later today I bought myself a Lotus deodorant :D It was only 2 euros so why not?

I will try to post more often what I find from stores, flea markets etc. (F1 related items). Haven't had much time for stuff like this lately and some of you have requested me to do these more.

Tomorrow I will post PART 2 of Kimi Räikkönen in the "Finnish F1 drivers" -series.

F1 TREASURES X

This DVD arrived in the mail last week and I have just watched it. I love it when you can buy season reviews etc. when it's between seasons. You get your dose of F1 and you stay happy for a little while.

This was a double DVD with over 5 hours of material. I had ordered this DVD earlier from Spain but I never got it. This came from the UK with no problems.

I have all the season reviews that have been released on DVD and also a lot of the VHS versions as well. I'll try to find them all and take a picture for the Facebook page later.

Earlier this weekend we have asked the fans of our Facebook page to send us pictures of your F1 stuff and also pictures from races etc. So if you have something to show us then please do.

Send them to our facebook-inbox at the F1 4 Life page so that our wall doesn't flow with pictures. We will post them on the wall ourselves if there is something really cool.

I want to thank everybody who have already sent us pictures! It is always interesting to see what kind of Formula One maniacs we have in our "F1 community" ;)

Next weekend it's Formula One time and this time for real! No more testing! No more waiting!

I will post a GP preview again before the weekend as I always do. After the GP I will post a review as well and see how it went.

I am very exited and can not wait for the season to start!

F1 TREASURES IX

Well, well, well... haven't done these for a while so thought I'd post one right now.
Didn't know that people even were that interested of what kind of F1 stuff I buy but some wrote that I should continue.

In December I ordered myself some Christmas presents from eBay and also from the official Formula One page. 4 DVD's and a bluray.

The bluray was supposed to be the 2012 season review but I never got it! I ordered it from a spanish company on eBay and they just refunded my money and never told me about it. What kind of customer service was that?!

The DVD's all came like they were supposed to. The 2013 review from the official Formula One page (f1.com) and the 2008, 2010 and 2011 reviews from eBay.

I have been saving them for a day like this. It's been snowing like hell for the last couple of days, the Australian GP is over a month away and I really miss watching Formula One.

Now it's time to make some nice food and watch these DVD's back to back! My wife is going to be thrilled. She hates F1..

F1 TREASURES VIII

Earlier today I was coming home from a meeting and I stopped by this second hand store. A lot of boring books but then I saw one with Mika Häkkinen on the cover. He used to be my favorite driver.

The book is called "Ruutulippu" and if we translate it to english it means checkered flag. This book is in finnish obviously and it's from the year 2000. It cost me 4 euros.

I have said many times earlier that if you buy a Formula One related book in Finland there's always a Finn on the cover. Even though Michael Schumacher won his first world championship with Ferrari that year it doesn't matter. The only thing Finns are interested in is how Häkkinen drove in the year 2000.

In the upper corner there is a text "Mika Häkkisen kova taistelu mestaruudesta" which means Mika Häkkinen's hard fight for the championship. Again nothing about Schumacher.

The book is not only about Formula One but all motor racing. It's very strange that the other Finnish superstar Marcus Grönholm won the world championship in the world rally series that year, but he wasn't on the cover! Why not?! That's how much Finns love Formula One!

Oh wait.. Grönholm is on the back cover. A very small picture.

F1 TREASURES VII

I haven't found any treasures for a while but now I did!

Bought this old retro game for only 3 euros from a Finnish website called huuto.net .

The website is like eBay but Finnish.

The game is originally from Asia (1993) and it's clearly pirated. It also says on the back of the box "FOR SALE AND USE IN JAPAN ONLY".

I found out that this game is known as "Nigel Mansell's World Championship Racing" outside of Asia.

This time I was getting lunch from a deli and then I saw a book with Kimi Räikkönen on the cover in a bookstores window.
It was a bit old and in finnish so it cost only 7 euros. The book is about Räikkönen's career and it was written right after his 2007 drivers world title.

The book is called "JÄÄMIES" which is "ICEMAN" in finnish.

I read a few chapters in the buss on my way home and it seems to be a very good book.
You don't have to be a Kimi Räikkönen fan to enjoy this book, you only need to understand finnish.

Actually I have never seen a book about Kimi in english. Maybe there will be in a few years..

F1 TREASURES V

Here is my latest treasure! I found this today in a second hand bookstore.

The book is about the Benetton Formula One Team and the 1995 drivers & constructors world championships (Benetton won them both in 1995).

This book is in english and it cost £19,90 back in the 90's but today in 2013 at the second hand bookstore it was 8 euros.

On the first page it says that this book was given to somebody as a price for a master salesman competition. What ever that means..

The book is mainly a picture book. Very little text and a lot of nostalgic photos from the 1995 season when Michael Schumacher won the drivers and constructors championship with Benetton.

I like to have books with pictures. It's quite boring if all books are just text. I like to learn interesting facts when I read but sometimes a picture can explain more than a thousand words. Sounds kind of cheese but it's so true.

F1 TREASURES IV

Today I walked by a bookstore and there was a sign in the window that said "Free books!".

My first reaction was "I bet the books are very bad if they can't even sell them".

But I could not resist to take a small peak of what they had to give away.

It was mostly rubbish but then I saw a book with cars on it.

I picked up the book and there was even an old Formula One car on the cover!

The only problem is that this book is in German. I have studied some German in school but it is a bit rusty when I haven't used it at all. My own language is swedish and there are some similar words in both languages so it helps a little.

Unfortunately the book wasn't about Formula One that much even though there was a F1 car on the cover. The only pages about racing were these..

..and these.

Better luck next time! But no harm done when this didn't cost me anything.

F1 TREASURES III

I went for a walk with my dog and then I noticed a flea market less than a mile from my house.

Of course I had to go and check out the books as always. 

The first book I grabbed in my hand was a Formula One dictionary from the year 2001. Yes an alphabetical F1 dictionary about everything!

The price was only 1 euro.

The book is in finnish but fortunately I understand that language as well.

Earlier I said that in Finland every F1 related book and magazine cover always has a Finn on it. Finnish people would rather do an interview with Tommi Pärmäkoski (Vettel's former personal trainer) than the champion himself. It has nothing to do with Vettel it's just that the people are very patriotic.

On this book cover you can see Kimi Räikkönen in his Sauber.

And on the back cover you can see Mika Häkkinen in his McLaren. He was my favorite F1 driver after Ayrton Senna had passed away in 1994.

When you open the book you can see Mika Häkkinen again in a little bit better picture. 

Not a big surprise!

Then we have the introduction and it's written by the first Finn to ever drive in a Grand Prix.

This is Leo Kinnunen.

He's just saying that when he was driving in the 70's there wasn't any good information on motor sports in Finland. Now there is books like this one and all the GP's are shown on TV!

That's all I found this time. 

Now it's time for me to go and read this!

F1 TREASURES II

This time the flea market had to offer a Formula One card game. 

It's quite simple actually. You can play two games with these or make up your own rules. 

The first game is very stupid and has nothing to do with F1 if you ask me. You just collect cards from your opponents that have the same letters (every card has a number and a letter). When you have all the numbers from one letter you win.

The second game is better but not so spectacular either. Every card has a picture of an F1 car, info about the speed, RPM etc. The point is that the players take one card and the one who's turn it is says for example the speed that is shown on his card. Then the one who has the highest on their own card wins the round and collects the cards from the others. The one who has the most cards when they run out wins.

I found it much more interesting just reading the information about the different cars.

The price I paid was only 50 cents so it doesn't really matter if this game wasn't that good.

F1 TREASURES I

Today I went to the flea market. The reason why I go to flea markets is that you never know what you can find. For example you can find books and DVD's that are too old to be in stores and they are much cheeper as well.

Today I found a book from 1996-1997 about the Formula One history (1950-1996) for only 1 euro. Inside the book there was an article cut out from a magazine with the 1997 race calendar.

Then I also found Lewis Hamilton's biography written by Frank Worrall for 5 euros. The book is brand new and it seems that the previous owner didn't even read it. Probably an unwanted christmas present.

The third thing was a "Race World" DVD (area2) about famous racing personalities for 2 euros. At home when I put it on the shelf I noticed that I already have this DVD. 

I guess I have to give it away then. Who wants it?
